Cost Effective Timber Paling Fencing
Timber Paling fences are a cost effective option suitable for most homes and neighbourhoods, particularly for property side and rear boundaries.
Timber paling can also provide a cost effective feature fence. Simply by adding capping, exposed posts and structured pine, plinth and rails a timber paling fence can transform into a high end feature fence at a portion of the price of alternative fencing options.
If your preference is a timber paling fence, with exposed posts we don’t recommend the use of hardwood posts due to the hardwood displaying a slightly higher bowing effect.
Your options for post types include cypress or hardwood posts.
Cypress Posts
We prefer to use hardwood posts to increase the longevity of the fence, however cypress posts are also an option as they do provide a straighter line, are less prone to ‘bowing’. Cypress is also naturally more resistant to ground rot and boring insects such as termites, however they are not as strong as the hardwood.
Hardwood Posts
Hardwood is much stronger than cypress however they are more porous and more prone to rot. This is why we highly recommend using Hardwood posts with the optional extra of adding a bitumen paint to the bottom of each posts, which prevents rot and highly increasing the strength and longevity of the fence.
Protect your Timber Paling Fence from moisture
We offer the additional option of applying a bitumen paint to the bottom of each of each post to provide protection against moisture. The vast majority of fence repairs or replacements we construct is caused by post rot appearing just below the ground surface due to moisture in the ground sitting against the timber post.
The bitumen paint protects the timber surface of the post from weather moisture by providing a waterproof seal over the post. This process will significantly increase the durability and longevity of your timber paling fence, making it even more cost effective.
